Robin Hope
Robin Hope rose to prominence when he started a new band in 1958 called The Sapphires (in which he played lead guitar) - the group also included Fred Mummery (Piano), Mike Green (Bass), and Murray Johnston (Drums), and they were successful in that same year in obtaining a residency at a local coffee lounge The Copper Cat, in Lower High Street, Christchurch. The Copper Cat was one of the original night spots in Christchurch and was always popular for "after-match coffees" as it did not close until around 2:00am. Robin also featured as lead guitarist in Dion Shannon and The Shamrocks and latterly with Dion and Cecile in Sabra. |
