David LaPlanche  —  seen here with Gaynor Le Compte of the New Zealand Cliff Richard Society

David's musical career began with the winning of a talent quest in his home town of Waimate, at the age of 11 - singing Buddy Holly's "Oh Boy".  He was soon playing in his own bands, and performing locally.  Latterly he featured at nightclubs, dances, cabaret shows and Caroline Bay Christmas Carnivals.  Australia beckoned and he did a variety of work including cabaret, RSL and Leagues Clubs, and made appearances on a number of TV shows including Brian Henderson's "BANDSTAND".  David entertained American troops on "R and R" from Vietnam before the UK beckoned, and in London he won a talent quest which included cabaret shows in Scotland, Germany, Italy and throughout the UK.  Finally he headed back to Australia and New Zealand doing nightclubs and cabaret work, plus touring New Zealand with a Cliff Richard tribute show.  David has performed other shows such as "The Music Of Bobby Darin", "Cliff and Elvis, the Early Years", and "6 of the Best".  He particularly enjoys working with children, and was a finalist in the Coca Cola NZ music awards in Auckland with his children's CD "A Hand Full Of Songs".
