Brian Bligh
Rhythm Guitarist in Johnny Campbell and The Detours

Brian hailed from Linwood in Christchurch, and played rhythm guitar in a group known as The Sunsets before joining Johnny Campbell and The Detours and a residency at The Laredo Nitespot, to where the group had moved from Surf City.

Bruce Stenhouse, Ross Taylor, Brian Bligh and Les Gemell

Johnny Campbell and The Detours
Brian Bligh, Trevor Wright, Johnny Campbell, Jim Phillips and John Clinton

The Detours quickly gravitated to the top slot at The Laredo, after Dave Miller and The Playboys (changing their name to Dave Miller and The Byrds with attendant personal changes) had made their move to the big-smoke of Auckand.  The high-point of The Detours career was opening the Rolling Stones/Roy Orbison Show in Christchurch in February of 1965.  Recording-wise, Brian appeared on the group's second Robbins release My Girl // I Just Can't Go To Sleep  RRSP54.
