The following is an article which appeared in The New Zealand Listener on October 23, 1964
The Wayfarers (above), a Wellington folk-singing group, depart soon for the United Kingdom to try their luck in big-time show business. When they performed in a city cabaret recently, thev were heard by the New Zealand representative of a shipping line, and he was so impressed that he signed them up to entertain passengers during the trip to Britain.
Formed at the end of I963, The Wayfarers sang for their own pleasure. They shot into public notice after the American entertainer Freddv Morgan wrote them a song, Keeper of the Lighthouse. The recording was an immediate success: within a week it had zoomed into hit parades all over the country.
The Wayfarers were deluged with offers, but several changes in personnel prevented them from accepting many engagements, however their biggest thrill was playing to an audience of l0,000 at the Brookland Bowl, New Plymouth.
The trio has appeared on television. and tonight will broadcast from 2ZB.
