The New Zealand lo-fi indie rock duo Tall Dwarfs, featuring Chris Knox and Alec Bathgate, released a prolific catalog of influential mini-albums, full-length records, and EPs on the Flying Nun Records label spanning from 1981 to 2018. The Tall Dwarfs was a partnership and a friendship that started and was honed in groups like The Enemy and Toy Love, and has endured for more than thirty years. The band lacked a drummer, but would use household objects and hand claps to act as percussion. Both members can play guitar, and utilise 12 a 12-string and bass guitar on their records. Both members can play organ as well, and this instrument has been utilised on various tracks. The Casiotone is also frequently used, especially for live concerts.
In 2005, they did a small number of concerts in the United States, playing with the Olivia Tremor Control. |
