Sweetwaters South  —  at Christchurch's QEII Park, Waitangi Day – Monday, February 6, 1984 .....

The event is most famous for featuring the final live performance of the iconic American rock band Talking Heads before they stopped touring, only playing together years later in 2002.  Along with Talking Heads, the concert featured Simple Minds, The Pretenders, Dance Exponents, and Netherworld Dancing Toys.  The festival famously sparked a whirlwind romance between Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) and Jim Kerr (Simple Minds), who married later that same year.  Sadly, the concert drew a crowd of only roughly 15,000 people.  Because it was short of the 20,000 tickets needed to break even, it ended up being a financial loss for the organisers.  The brand lay completely dormant for 15 years until director Daniel Keighley attempted his ill-fated revival in January 1999.
