Peter Ward

Peter James Leith Ward was born in Christchurch on July 25th, 1941 and died on June 23rd, 2001 in his hometown.  He began his musical career playing at various dance halls around Christchurch night spots with various groups, and was resident at a number of the most popular venues of the day, reaching the pinnacle of his career as drummer for Ray Columbus and The Invaders before being replaced by Jimmy Hill.  He was a member of The Dominoes, The Saints and went on to join The Downbeats, Saki and the Jive Five, Max Merritt and The Meteors, Ray Columbus and The Invaders, and ultimately Pete Ward and The Prophets.  His last group was a "start-up" known as Towerfree
