NZ Sun City Country Music Awards — annual country music awards held in Nelson
The NZ Sun City Country Music Awards is a singing competition held annually at Club Waimea on Labour Weekend in Nelson, New Zealand. Contestants from all over New Zealand compete for the Junior, Intermediate, Veteran and Senior Overall titles and a range of prizes totalling over $9000.00
The overall winners of each age group gain entry to the NZCMA Entertainer of the Year competition to represent the NZ Sun City Country Music Awards. The awards have been running for over 35 years and are now affiliated with the New Zealand Country Music Association, allowing our overall winners of each age group to compete at the NZCMA Entertainer of the Year competition.
Competitions are held in Club Waimea which is located in Richmond, Nelson. It has a large carpark and plenty of accommodation available in the area. This is where The Nelson Country Music Club hold their fortnightly club nights and use of the facility is sincerely appreciated. The annual programme commences on Friday with a registration evening followed by a Country Showcase featuring the judges for the weekend. Auditions then begin Saturday morning, with a Rock 'n' Roll section and social evening Saturday night, continuing on Sunday morning. The judges select their finalists in each section which then go on to compete in the Finals Showcase. A Veteran Finals Showcase on the Sunday afternoon generally features special guests. |
