George Balani is a well-known veteran New Zealand talkback radio host, television presenter, and local political figure primarily associated with Christchurch.  George spent decades working across major New Zealand radio networks, including prominent talkback slots on Radio New Zealand and Radio Pacific.  He conducted high-profile interviews with major figures like author Barry Crump, director Vincent Ward, and musician Tim Finn.  He also famously hosted live radio shows directly from Scott Base in Antarctica.  Balani served as the managing director and a prominent presenter for Christchurch Television (CTV), a regional station whose building tragically collapsed during the 2011 Christchurch earthquake.

In 2001, Balani ran a high-profile campaign for the Christchurch Mayoral Election, finishing as the runner-up behind incumbent Garry Moore.  He later considered contesting a seat on the Christchurch City Council.  George has been involved in several businesses over the years, laterly operating retail ventures like Dream Beds.
