Beat Unlimited - started life in the New Year of 1965
This Timaru rock group featured Laurie Herdman (later Laurie Dee) as Vocalist, Ian Winter (Lead Guitarist), John Rowse (Bass Guitar), Ken Wright (Rhythm Guitar) and Dave Beattie (Drums). They competed in the 1965 Big Beat Dance Band Contest which was held in Canterbury Court, Christchurch, securing 3rd place in the contest behind Chants R&B and Peter, Paul and The Pursuers.
