After The Castaways dissolved, Lenny Ormsby and Doug Petrie joined up with Peter Gillette on keyboards, Ben Kaika from Compulsion on bass, and vocalist Toni Eden, in a new group called The Traque for a two year residency at the Hawaiian Eye's Cheetah Room in Sydney. A brilliant, funky lead guitarist, much admired for his chops, Len led The Traque on tour throughout Australia. Eventually, The Traque left for Thailand where they were the popular resident band at The Nipa Lodge, Pattaya Beach, between 1970 and 1972, playing for the Americans involved in the Vietnam War who were there on R&R (rest and recuperation) leave. Eventually there was a residency at Bob Walters' Penthouse, a popular Surfers' Paradise nightclub in the mid 1970's. Len ensured the band was well paid, and during their time in Thailand secured well-placed gigs, such as performing for the Thai Royal Family in Bangkok. He returned to Australia's Gold Coast in the 1980's and formed A Maori Affair, who became resident band at the Pacific Hotel, Southport, Queensland, Australia. |
