Tony McLaughlin — guitarist/keyboardist with The Premiers, Double Vision, Copper Wine and Trinidad
The Premiers were at The Sandridge Hotel circa 1978, whilst Double Vision were at The Marine Hotel in the 1980s
Copper Wine started at The Cave Rock Hotel in 1969, and a promotional pic was taken at The Cave Rock for Happen Inn with host and compère Pete Sinclair. The group was Barry Clausen / Pete Wright / Tony McLaughlin. Then with Ross Laredo and also Barry Saunders playing with Copper Wine at The Esplanade Hotel New Brighton. Barry and Tony at The Marine Hotel as Double Vision 1981-83. Paul Revere's Restaurant Colombo St 1985, then out to The Bishopdale Tavern 1988, on to The Sandridge Hotel followed by The Durham Arms. Prior to that Tony was in Trinadad at The DB Star and Garter, then on to The Blenheim Road Motor Inn with John Storey, Brian Mason (ex Tom Thumb), Rodger Savage who was replaced by Gordon (Noddy) Hutchinson, Barry Clausen and Tony McLaughlin - Barry and Tony also played as The Copper Wine Duo at The Provincial Hotel before they went onto playing at all the working Mens' Clubs from Ashburton to Nelson. The longest gig was 1990-96 at The Durhan Arms and there are a couple of photos at my Tony's 21st with Barry Clausen (Guitar), Tony McLaughlin (Bass), John Tomlinson (Drums) and Nick ?? (Lead Guitar). Tony played with Nick in 1968 in his Samoan Band, and went on to playing in The Premiers Show Band with Pat Nehoneho and Bob Manawatu at the Sandridge Lounge Bar in 1971-72. Tony also played at Shirley Lodge with a group called Berlin with Barry Clausen, Simon Manson, Pete (Clogs) Van Roy, Brent Williams, and Tony McLaughlin. |
