Thumbs Of Brass - Christchurch Group
Chris Hudson (Bass), Danny Bennett (Drums), John Purvis (Guitar) and Nancy Kiel (Vocals/Synthesier)

Formerly known as Maud and The Kippers (The Kippers) which morphed into The Comics and subsequently morphed into The YoYos

Luke Neary muses ....  "Thumbs of Brass played mostly John Purvis original material and toured New Zealand for what must have seemed like forever.  The group was never allowed to play in Christchurch for some reason, but had a great following in Dunedin whilst they were gigging at The Captain Cook Hotel.  This band grew out of the last iteration of The Comics after Xtine was replaced by Chris (unbeknowns to me) after a disastrous North Island Tour which included backing The Crocodiles at Auckland's Mainstreet amongst other significant gigs in the big city.  Regretably very little money was made and the group returned to Christchurch to pay off some debt incurred in the aquisition of an all singing and dancing PA system which John Purvis and I were putting together.  I recall having painted the PA bass bins on the floor of a Gisborne hotel about half and hour before official sound check time!  Thumbs of Brass toured frantically around the South Island including Invercargill and the West Coast, trying to stay afloat and hoping that the truck didn't crap out.  We returned home to Christchurch after every circuit for a rest, but never obtained a gig in the hme town   —  WEIRD!  The band did, however have great followings in Timaru and Dundein, and those gigs kept things afloat"
