Peter Charles Sinclair ONZM was born: in Sydney, Australia, on November 15th, 1937 and died in Auckland of leukemia on August 8th, 2001. He was 6ft 1in tall, with fair hair and brown eyes and had come to New Zealand with his parents as a small child, becoming a pupil of Christ's College in Christchurch, and continuing his education at the University of Canterbury in the arts. It was during a return visit to Sydney that Peter decided upon his future career, when his first job, as a radio announcer, brought him into contact with a number of show-business personalities. Still undecided, he returned to New Zealand and a further year of university studies, but this came to an abrupt end when he took a job as an announcer at Christchurch's 3YA. A year later he returned to Sydney for a two-week holiday, which turned out to be 2 years' work. On returning to New Zealand he had made up his mind - no more broadcasting, and for a while he earned his living compèring fashion parades. It was inevitable, however, that he should return to his first love, and after spending some time as a radio announcer, he made his Television debut as host and compère on Let's Go and followed through on to Happen Inn and C'Mon!. This was followed by a year-long overseas tour, much of which was spent in Greece. In the late 1970s he was presenter and quizmaster on University Challenge, Mastermind and in 1982 hosted the Mastermind International contest. In latter years he was an announcer on Radio Avon in Christchurch (the station eventually became C93FM). He also worked on Classic Hits FM and finally Easy Listening i98FM |
