Hamilton County Bluegrass Band c1974 - a group which built an incredibly strong New Zealand following
Colleen Trenwith, Paul Trenwith, Graham Lovejoy, Miles Reay and Alan Rhodes
The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band became overnight stars in New Zealand as the resident band on the NZBC’s The Country Touch in the late 1960s. That show's host Tex Morton lured them to Australia where they toured for two years with the massively popular Slim Dusty. In the middle of their stay in Australia they travelled to Nashville, Tennessee, USA and appeared on The Grand Ole Opry, and on their return to Sydney recorded the Kersbrook Cottage LP, still a touchstone of Australian bluegrass music. The July 1968 Country and Folk Spectacular Featured The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band, Band of Hope Jug Band, John Hayday, Frank Fyfe, Phil Garland, Jae Renaut, Christine Smith and Beale Street String Stretchers at Christchurch's Theatre Royal. They backed Australian Slim Dusty during the recording of his Live At Wagga Wagga album, released in 1972. |
