The Gladstone Hotel — Corner of Durham and Peterborough Streets, Christchurch
Coming to prominence in the early 1970s when acquired by Dominion Breweries, The Gladstone became a major musical focal point in Christchurch, and hosted many, many successful groups from all over the country. The Gladstone became the city's musical Mecca in the post-punk era. The hotel's accommodation closed in 1985, and it was renamed the Durham Arms in 1990. It was demolished on 2005 to make way for a new office building. |
