Brian Hurst  —  lead singer with The Tunesmen, Oscar, Crescendo and The Tru-Tones

Brian Hurst was originally from Lancashire in England.  He and his family moved to Christchurch, New Zealand in 1964, where he formed his first group Brian Hurst and The Tunesmen.  With personel changes and the passage of time, the group morphed into Brian Hurst and Oscar - which would subsequently become Brian Hurst and Crescendo.  Brian's groups gradually changed from a country-based style of music to largely covering popular current hit material.  In the late 60s, regular gigs were performed in Timaru over the Christmas period, and at The Fairlie Country and Western Festival circa 1971.  Brian and his groups were well known around the Christchurch pub-scene with appearances at The Aranui Tavern, The Bishopdale Tavern, The Woolston Tavern, The Esplanade Tavern, The Black Horse Tavern, gigs at Woodend and Rolleston as well as private functions at Christchurch's Brevet Club.  Brian died in 2019 having had an extremely full and productive life in the music business.
